Metro 2033 on 16 Published in March 2010. As I write this, it is 30 May 2011. You might ask yourself why There 'sa review of Metro 2033 more than a year after its launch.

Well, Destructoid never officially checked Metro 2033 . I had multiple problems, multiple copies on the Xbox 360 and PC work, while Anthony Burch decided, a non-review after using it in the third chapter, and refuse to write to indulge him further.

Finally, after the game on PC works, and beat it this weekend, I thought it was a shame that we do not check the game. Let history be rewritten.

Metro 2033 (Xbox 360, PC [Review])
Developer: 4A Games
Publisher: THQ
Released: 16 March 2010
MSRP: $ 59.99

Metro 2033 is a unique game, despite how its gritty, post-apocalyptic visuals and first-person-shooter design may make it appear. As Artyom, a young Russian man born in the underground home of Moscow's post-nuclear survivors, players must navigate the Metro, a sprawling network of train tunnels and stations-turned-cities that house communists, Nazis, and brigands. Oh, and the occasional person whoisn 't an asshole.

Strangely, for a game based on a novel, Metro 2033 's story isn't all that detailed. A narrative is there, and it's quite a decent one, but nothing really feels fleshed out. The idea of a world where conflicting ideologies have been taken out of context by the survivors of nuclear war is a powerful and intriguing one, but it's never explored at more than a surface level (which is a criticism I have heard of the book as well). I'd love for the unique and genuinely interesting world ofMetro 2033 be given more meat, but you always only a foretaste of the story, never a full bite.

On the surface Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter, but it was rightly described as a survival-horror and it is perhaps one of the traditionally Survival horrors are seen in years. Enemies are dangerous, to the point where absolutely all Encounter in the game is able to kill the player. Hideous monsters are fast and flexible, while human opponents are often heavily armed and armored. Meanwhile, the players 's provides a constant low level. In fact, most of the enemy always has the advantage over Artyom and mind are the way to win, not superior firepower.

What this leads to is a game that is perhaps one of the most stressful I 've played in a long time. That 's not a bad thing, either. Metro 2033 is depressing, where every battle by the skin of one 's teeth and happy to escape at any step could lead the player into a trap or a deadly ambush. If you 're in the wrong mood, Metro 2033 is not funny. It 's downright awful. If it \ let "to" with you, but it is compulsively captivating.

There are some balance problems. It should not have three consecutive, in the short-range shotgun blasts to kill a man, especially when Artyom is itself incapable of even Half that much damage. Likewise, headshots against enemies are onlysometimes rewarded with an instant kill. Most opponents wear a helmet, which seem to require upwards of three headshots. The sniper rifle, for example, seems like a waste of time, since a successful headshot rarely, killing an enemy, and even the entire opposing force on alert status, you 'll never get another chance to cause your target to get without chewed by enemy bullets.

Likewise, the game's attempt to create a cat-and-mouse combat situation doesn't entirely succeed. You can see what 4A Games was going for -- you can blow out lights to create darkness, there are multiple paths in any combat zone to allow outflanking, and you have to avoid broken glass or alarm systems to move and kill silently. Sadly, the enemy AI is not quite equipped to handle this. Enemies always You see in the dark, even though the game does not tell you, and your attempts to outflank usually end up with the enemy just spotting you regardless of your position.

These problems make it feel cheated 4A to the game even more tense, and I think that's a disservice to what makes the game properly. Metro 2033 didn 't need with its loss ratios and AI cheat in order to create an exciting,. Artyom 's endurance is low, and he is always inferior to independent. If he gets shot, it is almost always reduced him to a tape of life, which can regenerate up to 20 seconds if you have a medical bag to cure quickly. The game not want They shot to get and if you do, death is more than likely to follow. To fan a run-and-gun shooter that sounds terrible. If you 're in the mood to fight, but this approach - where you need to focus more on survival than death - is intensely satisfying, and everyone escaped death is a relief, while every victory is one reason to elation.

The most obvious survival horror elements will be found with the weapons and ammunition. Like all good horror games, your far from abundant resources. Even more troubling are often unreliable weapons, weak balls, inaccurate, many sights and setbacks. As you progress through the game you can buy better weapons, but also the best upgrades feel improvised, such as pocket dictator creations of people who have done their best to disintegrate won a weapon, the 't.

As far as ammo goes to every ball feels precious. This is the "military grade" balls you find littered throughout the game can be typed. Military ammunition is more deadly than conventional factory-made ammunition, but they 're too much because it estimated. As such have military bullets are in the currency of the Metro, and if you use them in combat, you re 'money effectively to shoot enemies. Without your military projectiles, you can 't buy supplies and weapons upgrades.

Fortunately (and this may be the result of a patch), there 's only normal enough ammunition to do the work, if you' re a thorough looters. Enemy corpses are usually strapped all types of floors to her body, and there are several caches around each level littered. The positive prey-grabbing of an RPG is evoked in Metro 2033'S game, except unlike an RPG, you' re not always increase cool gear that your stats may look pretty, or - whatever you're booty vital to survive.

Even fewer explore dangerous areas to solve your challenges. Your flashlight, for example, be charged at regular intervals by pulling out a battery pack and pumps it up to produce more energy. There are various excursions to the blasted surface of Moscow, which requires the use of a gas mask. Like everything in this game, you 're required to survive on essential supplies, cleaning filter to clean the fresh air into the mask. Every second spent on the surface feels like a step closer to potential death and it 's wonderful, especially in a nerve-wracking way.

Metro 2033 gives you enough to survive, but it only gives the absolute minimum. The sense of "making do" pervades the entire experience, and everything adds to the incredible atmosphere that 's have been established. Whether you 're fighting neo-Nazis or mutated mole monster that is a pretty intense and scary game. You can never kill guarantee that your next action won 't, and even fights against bottom-feeding bandits may take a very long time to win, as you constantly change positions and try to prevail entrenched a to get opponents.

This atmosphere is bleeding in the non-combat items too. During the game's linear story, you '\ ll encounter various subway stations, which have formed their own societies and ideals. You can shop for new supplies, advance the story, or just on the impressive amount of interviews to listen to operate the NPCs that fill with content that wretched, merciless world. The metro stations really feel like they 're full of life, albeit life that' s desperately hanging by a thread. It can be difficult to really nail the immersion, and only a few games have it as smooth as Metro 2033 .

It helps that the game looks pretty stunning, too. On the PC there are some common frame rate problems, 't be resolved, with the in-game options (but are fixable, if you look) and root character animation leaves a little to be desired, but the environments are wonderfully detailed and the enemy monsters are particularly disgusting and disturbing. I love the voice works well with real Russian accent, which to communicate a great job to do a grounded sense of character. Use of music is rare, but when it happens, it 's almost always impressive and moving.

Her joy at Metro 2033 depends on your willingness to make a play dough in the template. She wants to be played in a certain way, and if you 're ready to meet the requirements, you' ll cast on your ass. More than any other re shooter, you do not play 'as ??a mighty hero. You 're a young man, barely armed and armored, the constantly is relentless, fresh fortune.

Such a game is certainly not for everyone. Those who can get into it, but will reallyInto it.

Score: 8.0 - Great ( 8s are impressive efforts with a few conspicuous holding them back. Won 't impress all worthwhile, but your time and money. )
