E3 2011: Kinect Star Wars Hands-On Preview

We get our first chance to wield a lightsaber and Force push the heck out of some battle droids in Kinect Star Wars.

For Microsoft 's E3 showcase event, we have a chance to see if we midichlorians it takes to become a Jedi with a playable demo of Star Wars had to be Kinect. Our practical experience began with a quick training mode. The instructions were delivered by none other than Yoda, even though we hear couldn 't like it over the noise of the event. Fortunately, on-screen instructions from the movements he demanded of us quite clearly. We learned that one step taken forward our Jedi dash forward with great speed, and keeps our right arm made him to activate his lightsaber. At one point, fired a series of battle droids to us, and quickly swing the lightsaber back and forth, we were able to reflect the laser beams right back to what the fragile robot into pieces. We used to raise our power and strength to move a small spaceship. Perhaps most satisfying of all, we learned that if too close a droid, we could fly to deliver a swift kick to send.

After our training was over, we played through the same battle on Bespin, that was played at Microsoft 's press conference. While we weren 't able to get out of a specific plot details of the representative we spoke, he did tell us that the story will span from about the end of Star Wars: Episode I to the beginning of Episode III. He also stressed that there are nods to the later films in the game, and the setting of The Empire Strikes Back 's Bespin for the demo level seemed to back up this statement. The action began when we started up a transport and lower down in the fight on a platform. We immediately had a series of battle droids to deal with. It was a bit of a lag between our gestures and the Jedi swinging swinging his lightsaber, but his movements seemed clearly in line with our own. We have found that we can choose a good degree of freedom, what techniques were used, we had to, and it was fun, some droids kick, slash reflect other blasts back at others and take you harness the power and throw others yet.

After clearing the platform of battle droids, we extended both arms to float and threw the burning shell of a vehicle from a sidewalk, so that we could previously. Leaping a platform below, we made short work of a few battle droids, before he faced a pair of droidekas. By jumping over them and they attacked from behind, we were able to penetrate their defenses and destroy them. The action is then cut to an interior of Cloud City, where two droids tried with batons, crackling electricity that emanated from both ends to stop us. A few jumps and slashes them from finished. We went into an adjoining hallway and stood in front of another group of battle droids. Although we faced 'd many of them at this time, it was still satisfying to use a variety of ways to deal with the group, and enter into another droid particularly gratifying. A cutscene will play that showed our other Jedi and Jedi-friendly input Bespin 's carbonite chamber, where they confronted two masked figures, each swing menacingly two red lightsabers. In anticipation of this note, the demo ended.

The representative talked about how the game is designed so that players get comfortable with the Force powers and lightsaber attacks in the early stages before they in later situations, that clever use of these skills to survive and advance payment. He also mentioned that it 's still a lot more Star Wars than the kind of actions that we witnessed Kinect, and if the material before the demo shown during the press conference is any indication, the other aspects can podracing, speeder biking, and piloting a starfighter. We have also learned that the game a second player can drop in or out at any time, and this split-screen mode, saw in action when two players simultaneously addressed the demonstration. It 'sa bit soon to say whether or not the force is strong with this one, but it' s tried it clear that it 's on a varied, engaging and authentic Star Wars experience to offer. We 'll have more information about Kinect Star Wars in the coming weeks and months.
