E3 2011: Microsoft talks Halo, Star Wars and new Kinect games

Microsoft provides live TV and YouTube, for the Xbox 360 with a booty of new games for the Kinect motion controller

It was a rather flat mood among the journalists leaving the Galen Center on Microsoft 's keynote briefing at this year' s E3 trade show. Some made negative comments \ on the developer's family-friendly Kinect title. Others lamented the fact that Kinect seemed primed core franchise invasion - Fable, Ghost Recon and Mass Effect among them. The most repeated complaint was that a total of Microsoft 's briefing a damp squib was.

However, this was all snipers a bit unfair and, frankly, inaccurate. The source is easily seen to it - since Microsoft, the gaming media 's foot on the ground in 2009 with it' s nailed to reveal Natal Project, was set the bar incredibly high for all future briefings.

The expectations swirling around Microsoft 's E3 keynote speech this year were ridiculous. The fact that the contents of the briefing was shrouded in mystery even more fuel to the hype. Everyone knows what they 're probably on Nintendo \ see' s and Sony 's presentations - Cafe and the NGP project (and an apology for the PSN hack) or. Microsoft was the Joker this year in addition to 's expo, see the developer of the largest franchises, nobody knew what to expect when the lights went out in the auditorium.

So if Microsoft to crack didn 't reveal a new console, or come back reimagine the casual-core interface, or the heaven and the angels descend from heaven, he sighted some criticism prompted. But if you '\ s briefing on it' believes the contents of the Microsoft \ s own merits begins, things start to look a bit more positive.

For starters, core gamers - those who claim the source of the Xbox 360 's can create impressive market share - have much to rejoice. Besides being the first player to access the first DLC for Call Of Duty win: Modern Warfare 3 and get to the only audience that, to Gears Of War 3 to enjoy, they 'll be happy to hear that two new Halo titles are in the pipeline. The first of these is a spruced up, remastered edition of the first Halo title, Halo Combat Evolved anniversary. The second title, the Master Chief looks back in a brand new adventure, Halo 4, Microsoft Interactive Entertainment president Don Mattrick has announced the first entry in a planned trilogy.

Second, the core audience can breathe a sigh of relief. When Microsoft announced last year that would Kinect in nuclear-track wailed on the Xbox 360, core gamers, the hands-free interface that would make some of their favorite franchises wreck can be used.

But as Microsoft 's Keynote shown, Kinect isn' t be shoe-horned into core-only title from him. Instead, upcoming games like Mass Effect 3 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is to use the sensor to improve the overall gaming experience. The latter title was especially impressive; Kinect players can 's motion sensing capabilities and voice command in a function called gunsmiths that they can customize weapons in the game fetishistic degree can be used. For those looking for a new experience Kinect core set of developer Crytek 's Ryse that uses the sensor to the new brutal combat of ancient Rome.

Elsewhere offered Splatterhouse directed fare at more casual gamers. The hardcore audience can its collective nose at games like Donkey Kong Country 2, Disneyland Adventures Sesame Street: Once Upon A monster, but the kids are absolutely thrilled. Microsoft also announced the introduction of Kinect Fun Labs, a kind of multi-faceted tool that the players use Kinect to allow re-style their avatars, scan toys into the dashboard and create 3D images. If that weren 't enough to attract the budding artists in the audience, the developer also announced that the incredible indie building game, Minecraft would be available to be used in conjunction with Kinect.

But apart from satisfying to both camps in the gaming audience, Microsoft rolled a number of content at piquing the interest of non-gamers and expanding on his console 's skills as a family hub. Along with the announcement that Xbox 360 owners would be able to access YouTube via the Dashboard, Microsoft announced that its browser, Google, would the user to search for content on Sky, Zune and Xbox LIVE Marketplace. This message came wrapped in a slogan Sun sleek as it was simply said: ". They say it takes Xbox it"

Overall it was a pretty strong showing for E3's opening keynote and Sony and Nintendo have a relatively tough act to follow. Naysayers may quibble that Microsoft's briefing didn't live up to the gold standard set 2009, but then it's worth pointing out that its competitors haven't managed that either so far. For now, Microsoft seems intent on attracting the biggest audience possible and it's doing it by extending its reach without diluting what attracted gamers to the Xbox 360 in the first place. That in itself, deserves much praise.
