07/04/2010 OnLive gives 30% discount on all games and rentals for the Fourth We're just as easily drawn into the shame spiral that is buying games we don't have any time to play as the next guy -- especially when a tremendous sale is involved -- so when we offer up news that every game available through OnLiveCurrently, 30 percent of all we have to be a bit careful.

Of course, it 'is perfect for those of us with "I restraint" (or whatever) who'll simply purchase one or two titles and not go totally bananas, but what of us folks with ... control issues? Well, yeah, we suppose there's always the rental options being equivalently discounted. Thankfully, the sale only lasts through Monday (at 11:59PM ET), otherwise we might end up with another two or three copies of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! -- A Reckless Disregard for Gravity ... which is only $7, by the way. Dammit!

07/01/2010 Zabiyaka Games unleashes Roy in 2011 From bully Games, ceasing work on Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3 (and finishing up DeathSpank), it's ready to pursue a brand new project: Swarm, The game, which stars some of the seemingly dull blue items. Opening the trailer (which you can find a break) gives us Lemmings vibe, with just a touch of sadism.

Players must take control of 50 Swarmites, navigating them through "gauntlets of death and destruction," all in the search of precious DNA. You'll also need to ensure that at least one Swarmite survives in order to make use of that collected life goo. Look for Swarm in 2011, when it'll be available "across multiple platforms."

07/03/2010 ModNation Racers' top 15 finish sets slow pace for May racing game sales Despite three high-profile launches in May, the racing genre got lapped that month, according to NPD sales data. Sony 's PS3-exclusive ModNation Racers , Activision's Bizarre-developed Blur and Disney's excellent Split / sec all fared poorly on the retail circuit with ModNation squeezing its way into the top 15 (on just one platform, mind you), while the other two multiplatform titles didn't crack the top 30.

Analyst Michael Pachter told IGN that he "thought the ModNation number was respectable, since the game came out only on May 25." Blurcame out the same day, so that relative to its sales were disappointing.

While sales figures weren't provided for any of the above games, Pachter writes in his monthly NPD analysis that Blur\\ "For sale significantly below our assessment of 100000 units," gives us some idea of how he and Split / sec performed. However, Split/Second was released a week earlier than ModNation and Spot .

With two much higher-profile racing games coming out this fall, in Gran Turismo 5 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, it remains to be seen if the racing genre itself is toxic at the checkout counter or if gamers have simply passed over May's hybrid concepts, content to wait for the new models of their favorite makes.

07/01/2010 DSiWare game has entirely too many sharks to love We're gonna need a bigger boat. Developer Teyon (responsible for games like 101 Mini Golf World , Hubert the Teddy Bear Winter GamesAnd ... Heavy Fire: Special Operations) wants to introduce you to a hundred and one special little friends: 101 Shark Pets . (What is it with Teyon and groups of 101?)

"Choose from over 101 baby sharks or simply adopt them all!" the game's website reads. In the most terrifying of virtual game pets, you are given responsibility for feeding, training, and even cleaning as many baby sharks as you can handle. You can enter your sharks in pageants, play minigames with them (like having them chase your boat!), and mix up special recipes of chum, using hundreds of different ingredients, to satisfy each shark's specific cravings. Okay, we made that last one up.

101 Shark Pets will circle the DSi Shop on July 5 (circle that on your calendar).

06/30/2010 Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2010 noms en-Rage-d

Id's postapocalyptic actioner leads multipublication panel's award nominees; Epic Mickey, Dance Central, and Portal 2 all net four nods each; winners to be revealed next week.

Within two weeks after the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo ended, the 46,500-person convention continues to make headlines. Today, the Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2010 nominees were announced, with id Software's Rage leading the pack with five nominations, including Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best PC game, and best Action game. Though it has no firm release date, the postapocalyptic action and car combat game will be published by Bethesda Softworks simultaneously on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac.

Also praised by the critics judge the game ', which includes 31 editors of media outlets, including GameSpot, Epic was Mickey. Wii-exclusive new take on Disney 's iconic rodents has been nominated in four categories, including Best Show, Best Action / Adventure Game, Best Game and Best Console Game.

Portal 2 also racked up a quartet of nods from the jury following the shock announcement that the dimension-hopping action platformer--previously announced for the PC and Xbox 360--is coming to the PS3 in early 2011. Also racking up four nominations was Dance Central, the upcoming Xbox 360-exclusive dancing game, which uses the Kinect motion-sensing system.
